UMNAI Shaping International AI Standardisation at ISO/IEC
UMNAI, the global leader in Neuro-symbolic AI, today announced that Angelo Dalli has been appointed a national expert and representative at ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 Artificial Intelligence standards committee by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA).
ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 is the international standards committee responsible for standardization in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is setup as a joint committee between ISO and IEC, the international standards development organizations. As the focal point of standardization on AI within ISO and IEC, SC 42’s program work looks at the entire AI ecosystem. Additionally, SC 42 is scoped to provide guidance to ISO and IEC committees developing Artificial Intelligence applications. Its current program of work includes standardization in the areas of foundational AI standards, Data standards related to AI, Big Data and Analytics, AI trustworthiness, use cases and applications, governance implications of AI, computational approaches of AI, ethical and societal concerns.
Within JTC 1/SC 42, UMNAI is active in Working Group 3, that is focused on the standardisation of Trustworthiness in AI and includes work on:
· Bias in AI systems and AI aided decision making
· Overview of Trustworthiness in Artificial Intelligence
· Assessment of the robustness of neural networks: Overview & Formal methods methodology
· Standardization in the area of AI Trustworthiness
· Risk Management
· Overview of Ethical and Societal Concerns
· Functional safety and AI systems
· Systems and software Quality Requirements and Evaluation (SQuaRE): Quality Model for AI systems
· Objectives and approaches for explainability of ML models and AI systems
· Quality evaluation guidelines for AI systems
· Controllability of automated artificial intelligence systems
Through their technology and standardisation activities, UMNAI is working to bring the clarity and predictability needed by the industry to ensure the long-term benefits of AI. ABOUT MCCAA
Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) is a public authority established by an act of Parliament on 23 May 2011.
MCCAA is an amalgamation of the Malta Standards Authority (MSA) with the Consumer and Competition Department and Malta National Laboratory. MCCAA has taken over all responsibilities of MSA and is Malta’s national standards body.
MCCAA is a member of European and international standards organizations, namely CEN (European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
MCCAA is governed by its Board of Governors appointed by the government. The seven members of the Board represent major stakeholders in governmental and non-governmental organizations
The Standards and Metrology Institute within MCCAA is responsible for the preparation, publication, revision, amendment, and promulgation of Maltese standards.
